ABOUT:
The Ontario Genealogical Society was formed in 1961 with a mission to encourage, bring together and assist those interested in the pursuit of family history. With 34 Branches and Special Interest Groups across the province of Ontario, we have spent over fifty years working to encourage genealogists in their research, promote genealogical standards, create, preserve, and make available genealogical resources in Ontario, and share our expertise and assistance.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS:
Our Branches have resource libraries and we also have a Provincial Library http://ogs.on.ca/services/library.php with a collection of general genealogical resource materials and the following special collections:
Family Histories: The library holds over 3000 donated family histories. If a book was written about one of your families, a copy may have been donated to our OGS Library. If you have written your family history, the library would be delighted to accept a copy for the collection.
Periodicals: The library regularly receives over two hundred genealogical and heritage periodicals. Many are family newsletters received as donations from the issuing family association. Others are received in exchange for the society’s publication Families or by subscription.
Family Pedigrees: Deposited pedigrees and other miscellaneous genealogical papers are kept in numbered files. There are over 90 000 names found on these charts. If someone has done work on one of your families, they may have donated a chart of that work.
Huguenot Collection: The Ontario Genealogical Society holds the library of the former Huguenot Society of Canada including its collection of vertical name files.
The Huguenot books are in our library but the vertical files are not. They are in the OGS Provincial Office, at the request of the Huguenot Society. People are welcome to visit us to look in these files by appointment. Contact the Provincial Office 416-489-0734 or by email at research@ogs.on.ca if you wish to review these files.

EVENTS:
OGS Conference
The premier event held annually by The Ontario Genealogical Society is our conference which is hosted by the society or various Branches or Special Interest Groups in locations across the province. This event spans three days with speakers providing a variety of talks on Saturday and Sunday and ½-day workshops offered on the preceding Friday. Speakers and presenters come from North America and around the globe depending on the scope of the conference and its theme. From 400-600 avid genealogists join us annually to take part in the presentations, field trips, banquet and annual general meeting. Follow conference planning and happenings on our web page.

Branch Events and Special Interest Groups
The various Branches and Special Interest Groups of the society conduct their own regular meetings, workshops and other events. Check out the society’s home page for links to the various Branch sites at: http://www.ogs.on.ca/branches/branchlocator.php .
